“The Ceremony” I’ll be honest – I’ve pretty much run out of things to day about this arc. This pictures are gorgeous, the story is a bore, and how many times can I say how great the cat is? Though the cat is pretty great – one of the all-time […] Read more
The more exasperating head-desk bullshit I see elsewhere in anime, the more I appreciate Argevollen. I’m beginning to think (well, not beginning if I’m honest) that it’s no coincidence so much of the anime I’m enjoying at the moment is in the hands of elder statesmen and women. But it […] Read more
Just so’s no one can accuse me of burying the headline, I’m dropping it. For now, at least. But given how much virtual ink I’ve spilled over Shigatsu’s first four eps, I didn’t think it was right to do so without at least a final summation. In short, if you’ve […] Read more
Kiseijuu was Being Human before there was Being Human. One out of two ain’t bad – or ain’t good, depending on how you look at it. If Akatsuki no Yona surprised me by deferring a tragedy I was expecting by at least an episode, Fall’s other top new series delivered […] Read more
The beast awakens. Which one? Take your pick. Things developed just a bit differently than I expected here, in that I figured tragedy was going to visit Akatsuki no Yona – and Fuuga – this week. But apart from several hearts melted by shota-moe, the capital of the Wind Tribe […] Read more
Fittingly enough, the experience of watching this OVA was an avalanche of mixed emotions. First things first – Watamote is still great. The OVA doesn’t miss a beat – it’s every bit as smart, hilarious and gut-wrenching as the TV series, and plays much like a regular episode with a […] Read more
Yeah all right, I’m in… No question about it, Shingeki no Bahamut is quite a lot of fun week in and week out. The plot is still a bit of a muddle as far as I’m concerned, but I don’t think that’s especially important in the larger scheme of things. […] Read more
That was Yowapeda at its best, plain and simple. Maybe there’s been a little bit of inconsistency with Yowamushi Pedal this season, it’s true. But two of the five episodes have been absolutely first-rate, and I chalk that unevenness up to the fact that Onoda has been only intermittently involved. […] Read more
“Dark Water” Never let it be said that Steven Moffat is afraid to go big on the big occasions. It’s fitting that there’s so much talk of “missing the headline” in this episode of Doctor Who, because it’s really difficult to know where to start when talking about it. What’s […] Read more
G! K-s certainly gets full points for absurdity. This episode didn’t make too much of an impression on me, so I don’t have a whole lot to say. It was perfectly amusing and entertaining, but not nearly as interesting – or intermittently hilarious – as last week’s gem. I’d have […] Read more
