That went just about as I expected, and about that I have no complaints. If there was ever a show that was custom-built to translate well to an OVA, it’s Gokukoku no Brynhildr. Most OVAs are more irreverent versions of the parent series, and Brynhildr was a screwball comedy passing […] Read more
Thank goodness for shows like Akatsuki no Yona. Really, what else can you say? At this rate, folks are going to have to start being thrilled when Pierrot is announced as the studio for adaptations. I mean, look at the last year or so – Kingdom, Baby Steps, Soredemo Sekai […] Read more
Enter Watanabae Wataru’s cycling geek persona… There are times when I wonder if a keen interest in road race (especially grand tour) cycling isn’t a major component of enjoying Yowamushi Pedal. It’s obviously not a prerequisite given how popular the series has become – I’ve been seeing it advertised at […] Read more
All the pieces are falling into place for Shingeki no Bahamut. The Blu-ray release schedule for Bahamut was announced last week, and based on the extremely strong initial set of Stalker numbers, MAPPA looks to be on-track for their first ever hit. That would be a reason to be happy […] Read more
“Death in Heaven” You may remember that I closed last week’s post by saying that “Moffat is sometimes guilty of trying to have his cake and it eat too, and a fear he may do that here”. This is one of those cases where I hate being right, but I’m […] Read more
This may be a weak season, but that doesn’t mean there haven’t been pleasant surprises – and Gugure! Kokkuri-san is definitely one of them. This certainly wasn’t the funniest episode of Kokkuri-san, but it may just have been my favorite. There’s always been a creeping sense of something dark lurking […] Read more
Now that was more like it. There’s no question about it – UBW more than most series really needs to stick with what it’s good at. Leaving behind the LN-style pandering (for the most part) and the overlong stretches of so-so dialogue makes all the difference in the world. When […] Read more
Once again, Mushishi serves as a wonderful travelogue for Japan. In case you were wondering, the beautiful setting for this chapter of Mushishi is Yanagawa, in Fukuoka Prefecture, on Kyushu Island in Southern Japan. I’ve never been to Fukuoka as it’s quite far South, but it’s yet another on the […] Read more
Well, that change didn’t happen a second too soon. I was seconds away from bailing on this episode, no lie. That’s how pissed off I was getting at Daiya no A, watching Seidou founder around and get lucky time after time. Kataoka is an idiot, injured players are putting the […] Read more
Be careful what you wish for, indeed. Well, I wanted “progress” – and I guess I got it. And in pretty much exactly the form I speculated on in my post on Chapter 136, too – a disastrous confession with disastrous results. It was definitely “movement”, anyway, and at this […] Read more
