If last week’s ep of UBW was the Yin, this sure was the Yang. What I said last week pretty much covers my thoughts now, so I’ll just reference it here: So far F/s n seems to be following the somewhat normal pattern of the series… which is to alternate […] Read more
Mushishi is, as ever, a story that tells itself, yet leaves the interpretation to the viewer. In many ways I think “Lingering Twilight” is very much a companion piece to last week’s “The Fragrant Darkness”. Both chapters concern themselves with the comfortable, familiar lifelong bonds that we form and which […] Read more
That was certainly the most irritating episode of Daiya no A in quite some time. When a three-minute recap at the beginning isn’t close to the most annoying thing in an episode, you know you’re in for a rough week (and let’s be honest, Ace of Diamond kind of specializes […] Read more
This season is a lot like a Chicago stuffed pizza – tasty on top, soft in the middle, and extra-thick underneath. My expectations heading into the Fall Season were pretty low – probably as low as for any season since I’ve been blogging. So when I say the season hasn’t […] Read more
Satou Tatsuo is clearly a man who’s well-acquainted with a history book or two. For reference sake, here’s a little historical reminder: It’s worth remembering who Dwight D. Eisenhower was – a military man, the Commander of Allied Forces in World War II. He was all that long before he […] Read more
That was a really heartwarming, feel-good episode of anime. Oh, and I watched Shirobako too. Shirobako – 04 Looks like I spoke to soon in the Fall Check-in – Shirobako is the kind of show its previews suggested it would be, for one week at least. I found this CGBC […] Read more
Two cours of this? I don’t think I could take it. I could cite few examples of a series that has me as conflicted as this one. Perhaps it’s true that if a show can make you feel anything intensely than it’s doing something right, even if what you’re feeling […] Read more
mortally wounding him, but I think a lot of the misguided criticism of his character would be allayed by simply trying to put oneself in his position – killing someone who looks like a person surely isn’t an easy thing to do. With no such qualms, of course, is Tamiya-san, […] Read more
Akatsuki no Yona is definitely the WYSIWYG anime of the season. There’s something incredibly honest about this series. There are no shortcuts or tricks – merely a difficult story about peaceful lives being consumed by violence and betrayal, of the kind that epics of this genre often are. We’re not […] Read more
Zombies vs. Frogmen? I’m down with that any time. I’m pretty darn close to committing to Shingeki no Bahamut after that episode, which certainly supplants the second as the best of the series. It was flat-out one of the best action-adventure episodes of any anime this year, a delirious clusterfuck […] Read more
