2014 is in the books – time for you to weigh in… Here’s the 2014 LiA reader poll – please choose your 5 favorite series of 2014. It’s a huge list, obviously, so I’m going to pin this post to the top for a week during voting rather than hijack […] Read more
Impending disaster is hanging thick in the air here. The line between the suspense/thriller and the tragedy is always an interesting topic to ponder when it comes to anime, especially those in the sci-fi horror family. With some shows it’s pretty obvious from the start on which side of the […] Read more
The Russian Roulette of writer/directors is back – strap in and hang on. I’ll get it out of the way up-front – I really, really disliked the premiere of Yuri Kuma Arashi. In fact, as far as I’m concerned it was a trainwreck. I’ll admit that I’m not a big […] Read more
Whether it’s a good or bad thing is in the eye of the beholder, but that premiere was certainly truth in advertising. Of the two madcap fantasy shows that premiered today, Binan Koukou Chikyuu Bouei-bu Love! (hereafter referred to simply as “Binan”) was by far the better in my opinion. […] Read more
The passage of time seems to have no impact on Akatsuki no Yona, so it’s no surprise that a season break is a mere speed bump. There’s really only one negative I can point to with this series, and it’s a petty and peevish one at that – it does […] Read more
What’s old shall be new again… OP: “Kamisama no Kamisama (神様の神様)” by Hanae Welcome back, Old Friend. I can’t say I remotely expected a second season of Kamisama Hajimashita – the first one didn’t exactly sell like hotcakes and it’s been two years since it finished airing. So the announcement […] Read more
Welcome back, anime. OP2: “Remind (リマインド)” by ROOKiEZ is PUNK’D What better way to usher in the new year than with an old friend, and Yowamushi Pedal certainly qualifies. I’ve been enjoying the break from episodic blogging that the new year provides, to be honest – batteries need recharging, and […] Read more
There’s good in every anime year, and 2014 was certainly no exception. Another anime year is in the books, and let’s be honest – in anime terms, it sucked. If it weren’t for a show that started in 2011 and a sequel to a 2005 series, for my money it […] Read more
These shows also ran in 2014, but that doesn’t make them also-rans… Sorry, just wanted to work that one in somehow. In many ways this list is more telling about the quality of a year than the Top 10 – certainly in terms of depth. I find 2014 to be […] Read more
Best “Shingeki” anime ever. Fall 2014 wasn’t a great season by any means, but in addition to the expected sublimity of Mushishi Zoku Shou, it was partially redeemed by two surprises that couldn’t have been more different. Gugure! Kokkuri-san looks like it will sell around 4500-5000 in the first volume […] Read more
