The accolades just keep rolling in. The results at the top of the LiA favorite series poll are far from surprising, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some interesting numbers here. Starting off with the fact that the 2014 poll had the exact same number of votes as the 2013 […] Read more
This one is a throwback in every sense of the word. Every so often a series comes along that generates a ton of buzz, the reason for which is largely a mystery for me. Such a show is the “Yatterman” 40th Anniversary project Yoru no Yatterman, which isn’t at all […] Read more
You’d think I’d know better than to watch sports anime EDs at this point… The sixth and theoretically final cour of Diamond no Ace kicks off with a very solid transitional episode, though I would strongly advise against watching the new ED (listening is fine) unless you want to be […] Read more
The more things change… First the housekeeping: as far as naming conventions go, I’m following the studio’s lead on this one. If they want to call this Episode 13 rather than 2.1, that’s good enough for me. And it’s rather fitting, given that despite the passage of 19 months on-screen […] Read more
Well – that was certainly different. I can’t shake the impression that Wit Studios’ Rolling Girls is trying just a little bit too hard. Too hard to be clever, and retro, and cool. And it never quite makes it over the hill, though it’s certainly an interesting attempt. I think […] Read more

This show holds a particular place in my […] Read more
Death Parade arrives like a refreshing breeze blowing the stink of mediocrity from the room. OP: “Flyers” by BRADIO How glorious it is, when a series with great expectations delivers on them in full. Even in a good season I’d have placed a lot of emphasis on Death Parade, given […] Read more
Suspension of disbelief is a definite prerequisite with this one. Assassination Classroom is a very popular manga indeed – quite possibly the top dog in the “next gen” pantheon of Weekly Shounen Jump titles. I like what I’ve read of it, though I’d be lying if I said it struck […] Read more
In the parched desert that is Winter 2015, any possibility of sustenance must at least be investigated. Junketsu no Maria – 01 (Pre-air) I wouldn’t go so far as to say Junketsu no Maria was a sleeper going in, but in a schedule nearly bereft of interesting prospects it was […] Read more
And off we sail, into the great unknown. OP: “Munou (無能)” by österreich What to call Tokyo Ghoul √A (and no, I don’t mean the weird title – that character apparently translates into “Root A”)? Is this a sequel – or a split-cour? Is it anime-original or not? This series […] Read more
