“A Garden For Two” The story of Anis and Shirin (let’s be honest – it’s really the story of the cat) finally draws to a close, and while it finishes with a strong and beautifully-drawn chapter I can’t say I’m going to miss it. I’m ready for Otoyomegatari to move […] Read more
Memo to self: start future episodes of UBW at the 15:00 mark. Fittingly, the season finale of Unlimited Blade Works is a microcosm of everything the series is as a whole. Irritating, pandering, visually stunning, gripping, and too long. I really wonder if this adaptation would have been better served […] Read more
Thank goodness Comiket can still surprise me. I’ve written a few Comiket posts already, so I’ll just drop off a few photos and share a few brief thoughts on this particular trip. As usual, the winter version is far more pleasant than the summer for obvious reasons. And as always, […] Read more
I’ll say this for Ace of Diamond – it usually delivers in the clutch. It’s Comiket weekend and I’m exhausted, plus the Top 10 post awaits, so this is going to be a slightly brief collection (for a double-episode) of my thoughts rather than the usual Daiya no A post. […] Read more
One last “Gao, gao!” for old time’s sake? Sign me up. I pretty much summed up my feelings about Gaworare in my write-up about the finale, but it’s worth repeating that I have a real affection for this series. I enjoy shows that defy expectations, and this one certainly did. […] Read more
One show is done, but the other one soldiers on… Given that we’ve reached the end of both the cour and and the series within a series, “Exodus” – and that early signs point to the parent show being a sleeper commercial hit – it seemed like a good time […] Read more
I wouldn’t change a frame of that episode, but boy – was it hard to watch. Merry Christmas from everyone at Madhouse! There’s a kind of leapfrog going on this season between Kiseijuu and Akatsuki no Yona for the top spot in my non-Mushishi list. One of them will tend […] Read more
Damn recap eps – biting me in the ass even now… Because I lost count somewhere, or because anime don’t usually run on New Year’s Eve (eve), I watched this entire episode thinking it was Shingeki no Bahamut’s finale. That happens from time to time (at least to me) and […] Read more
This season’s poll comes with a big disclaimer. The total number of votes cast in this poll is down quite a bit from Fall, though I don’t think that’s too much of a surprise. I’m covering fewer series this season, and next season is one of the least-anticipated ever. Hopefully […] Read more
Akatsuki no Yona ends its first cour as it began it – and spent all the time in-between. If you were waiting for a lull from Yona of the Dawn, you can keep looking – they just don’t seem to happen. If you take out the hors categorie Mushishi (and […] Read more
