There’s only one pairing in this series that matters, and I think we all know what it is. All things considered I was pretty happy with the second episode of Aldnoah.Zero’s second season. Every scene with Inko continues to have an uncomfortably dated sexism to it, and the short passes […] Read more
Sometimes, wanting to like a series just isn’t enough. Rolling Girls – 02 Rolling Girls is definitely an odd duck of a show. I could see where someone who hasn’t seen the Gainax and neo-Gainax series (especially FLCL) this one tries so desperately to mimic might find this to be […] Read more
Don’t try this at home. It occurs to me in watching Durarara unspool again, five years on, that this is a pretty dangerous formula in the wrong hands. It would be wrong to say Narita-sensei invented it – and the accompanying tropes which populate his works, especially DRRR – but […] Read more
To say that Death Parade is unique on this season’s schedule is the pinnacle of understatement. For me, there’s no doubt that Death Parade is by far the most interesting new series this season. That’s not because it’s perfect, but largely because it’s a show that demands attention and analysis. […] Read more
I’ll say this much for Tokyo Ghoul – at the very least, it still manages to keep me guessing. For once the manga readers are almost as much in the dark as the rest of us as Tokyo Ghoul Root A sets off on its mysterious journey. I’m not sure […] Read more
Surely, referring to your own species in the third person can’t be a good sign. Kiseijuu is certainly taking an interesting route to get where it’s going. So far this one definitely passes the commitment test. I’m not sure how Binan is going to stack up as a blogging candidate, but I’m certainly enjoying it as a viewing experience. I’ve said from the beginning that this series was only going to work if it unreservedly embraced the […] Read more
If I was to give a name to this episode of Akatsuki no Yona, it would be “Perfect”. This series really doesn’t miss a trick. Every base is covered, no one is unimportant, and no detail is too small to matter. It’s no exaggeration to say that not only was […] Read more
Sometimes the most rewarding series offer the simplest charms. I have an enormous affection for Kamisama Hajimemashita, which is a series that’s a living and breathing example of harmony and balance. Comedy and drama always peacefully co-exist, and it always manages to be ingratiating while never seeming like it’s trying […] Read more
At long last, let the final battle begin. I won’t dismiss you if you take some issue with the pacing of Yowamushi Pedal – it’s undeniably taken us a long time to get to this point. Too long? Debatably – but that’s the nature of many sports anime. And all […] Read more
