Raise your hand if you expected to see a pink wombat say “O, Sole mio!” this season. Binan Koukou Chikyuu Bouei-bu Love! knows exactly what it’s doing. That’s been apparent for a while, but what was implicit in last week’s storyline – that this is a sendup of mahou shoujo […] Read more
I’m beginning to see why so many people voted for the damn rodent. And whoever finally voted for King Il, thank you for your kindness. Truth be told, this wasn’t my absolute favorite episode of Akatsuki no Yona, though as much as I’ve loved this show through 18 episodes that’s […] Read more
What a strange cone of silence surrounds this series. Have their been many anime over the years as criminally underappreciated – or at least under-acknowledged – as Kamisama Hajimemashita? I can’t think of a lot. I’ve discussed the possible reasons at length already – the ease with which it goes […] Read more
No question about it – these omakes are getting more and more shameless. It was easy to think that this episode was going to be all bout the chimera cyclist Midousuji Akira, who has a way of drawing every bit of attention to himself whenever he’s on-screen. But for once, […] Read more
The passage of time is always a little strange when dealing with Little Busters!. This one has been a long time coming, I confess. There was quite a wait for a subtitled release to begin with, and I’ve had so little time of late that this episode sat in the […] Read more
New episode, new arc, new Durarara? Sort of. I won’t say the fifth episode of Durarara!!X2 was a revelation, but it was definitely the best of the season as far as I’m concerned. This was really the first time I felt some of the spark I did in watching the […] Read more
This is starting to look very much like a coup. Ace of Diamond continues to be among the worst offenders when it comes to long pre-credit recaps – an annoying money-saving tactic that’s common with long-running sports anime. But despite that it’s quietly on perhaps its best run of episodes, […] Read more
Aldnoah.Zero continues to be the same combo platter of reward and frustration it’s been (almost) all along, but the overall result is still pretty entertaining. There’s some mighty interesting stuff happening with Aldnoah.Zero at the moment, as the larger story is continuing to evolve in a disquietingly logical direction. Unfortunately […] Read more
That was certainly a game-changer. You know, there’s a reason why most fairy tales and nursery rhymes are really scary, when you actually think about the words (Jinirui wa Suitai Shimashita – oh, how I miss it – brilliantly riffed on this with Assistant’s wicked take on “And Then There […] Read more
Wai! More effing named characters to keep track of! I saw a comment about this episode (from an ASF poster named Blakstealth, FTR) that sums it up as well, I think, as any can: “I hope the next episode takes some time to explain what the fuck is happening.” Frankly […] Read more
