If one is determined to look for bright sides, this generally dismal season at least provides a couple of them. In a vacuum, the Winter 2015 season wouldn’t be too concerning – merely disappointing. But coming on the heels of one of the weakest seasons in years and one of […] Read more
What do you get the ep that has everything? I have to say I’m loving this tennis match between the two elite shows (by a country mile) of this season. It’s like Federer hits his Mozart forehand every Wednesday, then Nadal comes back with his textbook windmill topspin the next […] Read more
OK, it’s actually getting weirder. Binan Koukou Chikyuu Bouei-bu Love! is a bit of a funny series for me (in more than just the comedic sense). I’m definitely on-board – I understand what this show is selling and I’m buying it. But as a subject for blogging purposes it’s pretty […] Read more
When it comes to Akatsuki no Yona, this episode is a case of the rich getting richer, in every way. It’s pretty much a given that this series is going to be great at this point – it may as well be called “Yona of the Yawn”, the consistency is […] Read more
I sure wouldn’t want to be Mizuki right now. Kamisama Hajimemashita has hummed along at a relaxing pace for most of its 16 episodes so far. For most of the first season it operated plot-wise somewhere just to the north of a pure slice-of-life – there was stuff happening, but […] Read more

I wonder if Haruichi was born with those bangs? At long last I’ve found a little time to catch up on the OVA backlog, and we start out with the Daiya no A OVA (the first of a planned three, though I expect the TV series itself will likely continue […] Read more
Diamond no Ace has a way of making you pay for taking it for granted. I’d say the lack of recent comments on Daiya no A is a sign a lot of folks have lost interest, but the truth is I’ve never gotten many comments for this series. I certainly […] Read more
I’m still waiting for that magic moment, but this week didn’t bring it. I find myself in a funny sort of limbo with Durarara, both as a blogger and as a viewer. At the risk of becoming a broken record, the experience of watching it is peculiarly hollow for me […] Read more
Here’s the thing about Aldnoah.Zero – it is what it is. Whether that’s good enough is up to you. This was not an especially great episode, and Aldnoah.Zero certainly isn’t a great series. But there’s something about this show that’s still working for me – working better, in fact, in […] Read more
