Akatsuki no Yona just keeps upping the ante, with no end in sight. How can this show possibly not get a second season? It’s not just the remarkable consistency that impresses about Akatsuki no Yona, though for a show to be this good virtually without interruption is indeed impressive. It’s […] Read more
That episode sure gave you your money’s worth. There’s certainly a lot happening in Kamisama Hajimemashita this season. Even when it’s stepping back from the recurring plot it’s doing so haltingly, keeping one toe dipped in the water. And while there were times when the first season bordered on slice-of-life […] Read more
The guest of honor has arrived – let the party begin. I have a few thoughts percolating in my head after this episode of “Grande Road”, the first and most obvious being that it was awesome. We had pretty much everything you’d want here – feels, GAR, a sentimental look […] Read more
This is one twisted, bloody world that’s always a joy to return to. I mentioned this in one of my posts for “Book of Circus”, but I’m always impressed by how immersive Kuroshitsuji is. We throw around the term “world-building” a lot when discussing anime, but this series is a […] Read more
Not even Durarara, it seems, is immune from the anime cold. It was another pretty solid episode of DRRR this week, though I’d place it a notch below the last one and I’m still not quite… I don’t know what. The connection hasn’t quite taken – the wires aren’t joined, […] Read more
Aldnoah.Zero is predictable, but it’s predictably unpredictable too. Superficially, this episode of Aldnoah.Zero could hardly have done a better job of following the template the series has established so definitively in a season-and-a-half. There were two battles, and each went exactly the way they would be expected to. The two […] Read more
Brutal, just brutal. This episode of Diamond no Ace was a painful one, but it certainly wasn’t surprising. The handwriting has been on the wall for a while that Eijun’s appearance in this game was going to be a disaster, and indeed that’s exactly what happened. But it must be […] Read more
This series certainly isn’t getting any easier to figure out. It’s definitely a point in Death Parade’s favor that it continues to move in directions that surprise me, not just consistently but almost exclusively. I had a broad suspicion of what sort of series it was going to be based […] Read more
That was certainly a change-of-pace, in a good way. This may not have been the perfect episode of Tokyo Ghoul, but I think it came at the perfect time. Frankly “Root A” has been all over the place – scattershot, utterly confusing, uneven and sloppy. Sometimes it’s been exhilarating and […] Read more
I have to hand it to Japanese cops – they may not normally carry guns, but when they do they’re apparently self-realoading. I was a bit surprised that after last week’s episode of Kiseijuu, which I thought was one of the strongest yet, there were only a couple of comments. […] Read more
