After 3 seasons and 75 episodes, Bakuman got the glorious and happy conclusion it so richly deserved. For a series that’s offered up a fair bit of tension and suspense over its long run, there actually wasn’t a whole lot left for the finale. It was pretty clear what was […] Read more
This is just between us, but that was a great finale to a great season. It seems fitting that the two best comedies airing this season should end with a full cast O-hanami – it’s hard to overstate just how much this annual ritual means to the Japanese. This finale […] Read more
At the rate things are going, this season is in danger of doing a little damage to anime’s reputation for utterly crap endings. I’ve seen it remarked that it’s sad how underappreciated Zetsuen no Tempest has been, and how quickly it’s going to be forgotten. I certainly don’t disagree with […] Read more
Kotoura-san goes the “full circle” route with its finale, and all in all pulls it off pretty well. I said last week that I was glad Kotoura-san didn’t end with episode 11. It was easily the weakest of the season and certainly not how I want to remember this series, […] Read more

There are a lot of things I want to say about this series, but I think it’s best to start with a simple one: a sincere thank you to the people who created it. With a series as great as Shin Sekai Yori, endings are very, very hard. This was […] Read more
The two Production I.G. NoitaminA shows this season both delivered eminently predictable endings, but it’s illustrative of their natures that they chose such different ways of going about it. As I look back on Psycho-Pass, my impressions of the series highlight two fundamental truths I see in Gen Urabuchi as […] Read more
Robotics;Notes closes with an ending that may not have been everything I wanted, but was everything I expected. And that seems just about right. It’s the first series review post of the season, and this is always a taxing week. I don’t especially like series review posts, not just because […] Read more
There’s something to be said for finishing a season with your best material ever. I’m very much divided about Kingdom. On the one hand, I can’t help but think with regret about what might have been. If this series had been animated in grand style by Production I.G. or BONES, […] Read more
Here’s a short review of a short show. If you have two hours to spare, you could do far worse than spending them with the cast of Poyopoyo, DEEN’s wonderful little anime about a round yellow cat and the family who adopts him. Each episode is 2:50 long, and the […] Read more
