“Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken” There’s a larger problem with Benioff & Weiss’ take on Game of Thrones, one that goes beyond critiquing an episode like this one in its own right. I can honestly say that I found it engrossing for the most part, and that it seemed to fly by […] Read more
Sidonia is developing one of the weirdest love triangles in recent anime history. Owari no Seraph – 07 If Owari no Seraph were a one-cour show I obviously would have committed one way or the other by now, but because it’s a split-cour I’ve let this drag out longer […] Read more
That’s the problem with scouting reports right there. You have to feel a little sorry for Nishimura Kouji, Araya-kun’s kouhai at his tennis club and Maruo’s first-round opponent in the Kanagawa Junior. Araya surely meant well with his answers to Kouji’s inquiry about wha kind of player Maruo was – […] Read more
This story is indeed an intricate puzzle. Another very strong episode of Arslan this week, as the series continues to establish itself as a marathoner in a genre increasingly dominated by sprinters. It could be taken as an insult to say Arslan is plot-driven, but it applies here in a […] Read more
The hits just keep on coming. I was about ready to say this episode was a bit of a step down from the last few, but the last five minutes were crackerjack stuff. And frankly even its B-game is enough to keep Kekkai Sensen solidly in the upper echelon of […] Read more
If there was ever a show about which the word “shameless” was perfectly suited, it’s Shokugeki no Souma. Why do I like this series? It’s unapologetically sexist (though you can safely preface every adjective with “unapologetically” where Souma is concerned), with some of the most crass fanservice you’ll ever see. […] Read more
There’s no doubt we’re finally getting some big clues about what’s really happening with Punchline. But the operative question for me is whether or not I still care. My recent track record with NoitaminA shows and huge mid-series plot twists isn’t especially encouraging. But while the temptation to recall Samumenco […] Read more
“To the North” We got a mini-chapter of Otoyomegatari sandwiched in-between the usual releases from Mori-sensei, a short check-in with the remnants of the Halgal clan. As Karluk’s family sifts through the spoils of war, Azel and his kin have headed north, with Azel now officially in-charge of the clan. […] Read more
No Takeo, the plastic wrap does not make it OK… If that wasn’t my favorite anime episode this season, it was certainly Top 3 – and no question, for me the best episode of Ore Monogatari so far. It’s pretty miraculous that this show can pull off being as sweet […] Read more
I’m not sure whom to credit for how good this show is, but I am sure I really like it. Maybe I need to re-read Kyoukai no Rinne. Because the anime is pretty awesome, and I just don’t remember the manga being this good. Is Rumiko responsible for it, or […] Read more
