Well, that was worth the wait. But they sure as hell made us wait for it. My worst fears weren’t realized – despite a sort of trollish preview, Diamond no Ace did indeed resolve the agonizing cliffhanger it dumped on our doorstep last week. I guess they figured after 80-odd […] Read more
“Mother’s Mercy” Well, so much for that quiet and reflective season finale thing. I don’t think there’s any question this has been the most controversial season of Game of Thrones, both for book readers and new viewers (though mostly for different reasons). And I hardly think a season finale like […] Read more
Sometimes there’s just nothing like a good epic. Baby Steps and Arslan Senki have been joined at the hip this season in my mind. They air back-to-back on Sunday evenings so I generally blog them that way, and they make Sunday the best day of the Spring season as far […] Read more
Once you get to this level, nothing comes easy. Once more in watching Baby Steps, I’m struck by how much Ei-chan as a player is reminiscent of Greg Maddux – not only one of the greatest pitchers of all-time, but possibly the cleverest. This was a topic of discussion in […] Read more
UBW is one of those stories where the bad guys are a lot easier to root for than the heroes. Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works – 23 Much, much better. I mean, obviously. It would be difficult to list all the ways this episode of Unlimited Blade Works surpassed the […] Read more
Methinks all Shinomiya’s dish needed was some coffee. This episode goes some way towards redeeming some of what annoyed me about last week’s otherwise strong effort – namely Megumi’s bait-and-switch character development. I didn’t get too upset then because I knew this was coming, although while the way things played […] Read more
Looks like Uchikoshi found himself a few more kitchen sinks somewhere. I realize I’m largely talking to myself at this point with Punchline – two straight posts without a comment tells the story. But I’m still liking it, somehow, and it is almost over – though not as almost over […] Read more
I think Rumiko is basically mocking herself at this point. There just aren’t many anime that wouldn’t be better off with Yamaguchi Kappei added to the mix, and Kyoukai no Rinne is certainly no exception. He seems a very natural fit here, too, given the series’ mix of old-school style […] Read more
I hope you checked your cynicism at the door, because there’s no space to carry it on with this trip. Well, that was pretty much a whipsaw turnaround from the last two-part episode. Pretty much no Suna, and from the most serious story of the series to probably the silliest. […] Read more
Classic sports anime there – the agony and the ecstasy. That may have been the most consistently interesting episode of Daiya no A yet – it was certainly in the top five. There were fascinating things happening all over the place with any number of characters, and no head-desk moments […] Read more
