“Slack-jawed” is not a self-description I use too often when watching anime. But this show… Did that episode really just happen? I mean – damn. Osomatsu-san had already stamped itself as a dark comedy, but holy crap, that ep just grabbed the audience by the back of the head and […] Read more
No doubt about it – Anpanman is this anime season’s leader when it comes appearances in other anime. At this point I’m so used to seeing early adversity for Seidou that I wasn’t quite sure how to react to the first two innings of their matchup with Seikou. I mean, […] Read more
This week’s message is clear: you just can’t trust Hitler. Who knew? For my money that was definitely the best episode of Tekketsu no Orphans so far. I like Gundam episodes that are succinct, focused and to the point – when it comes to this mythos, in my view simpler […] Read more
“Oppai” hoodies? That may be the next fashion craze in Akiba. It seems sort of appropriate to cover One Punch Man and Concrete Revolutio on the same day, as I think there is a bit of thematic overlap between these two A-list studio action series. And one thing they definitely […] Read more

Volleyball may be a team sport, but it’s still played by individuals. Watching this episode of Haikyuu, I was reminded of a quote by the great Brazilian striker Romario: “Strikers are egotists, selfish. We have to be.” Be it football or not, the myth of the selfish striker is not […] Read more
Aragoto is pretty much everything you want a sequel to be. Make no mistake, Norogami Aragoto is really good. And it’s good in a myriad of ways – sure, it’s vastly entertaining and that’s ultimately the bottom line. But it also does a wonderful job of expanding the Noragami mythology […] Read more
Well, raise your hand if you didn’t know how that was going to turn out. While it was always pretty obvious how the immediate crisis in this arc would ultimately be resolved, Ushio and Tora still did a pretty great job (as usual) getting us there. It does get a […] Read more
The further Subete ga F ni Naru goes down the rabbit hole, the better I like it. The more anime I watch – especially given the broader creative trends in the medium – the more I realize that strangeness is a good thing in and of itself. That’s not to […] Read more
