Fumetsu no Anata e (To Your Eternity) Season 3 – 19

FFS, don’t drink the water. I mean, how hard is that? “To think own Yuki be true”, I suppose. In a way that whole interlude was kind of symptomatic of why Fumetsu is such an exasperating show. But the thing is even if Yuki knew that glass was full of nokkers (and TBH I’m still not sure whether it was or not) he probably still would have downed it. Just to prove a point. His commitment to his childish idealism is absolute, and on some level I guess you have to respect that. If nothing else Ooima-sensei writes him consistently.

At this stage I’m having trouble keeping track of who’s who with that crazy Guardian family. Mizuha, nokker Mizuha, ghost Mizuha. So who was that at the end who shows up at Yuki’s house? Did Satoru resurrect them or what? I just know they won’t stay dead, no matter how many times they die. They keep coming back to drag Fumetsu down to their level, and it’s irritating as hell.

Fushi burned through a lot of vessels in those tunnels, but at least he was smart enough to keep some in reserve. Especially Kahaku, whose appearance really set off Nokker-Mizuha. In the end Nokker-Itsuki puts a stop to it, effectively declaring defeat – for now. Wash the water out to sea, he says – let the nokkers in it decide for themselves what they want to do. The Man in Black, even in child form, still has too much game for them. He’s even popped all the nokkers out of the students (and revived the dead ones, presumably) and conveniently stored them in a thermos (no shortage of those in a Japanese school). One could make the charge that he’s a cheat code. But I suppose since he’s omnipotent, that’s sort of implied.

We still have three eps left this season (thanks to the Olympics) believe it or not. That’s both slightly ominous and slightly hopeful, since Fumetsu tends to end seasons pretty strongly. But I’m not sure where there is to go from here. This whole business with the cult members, I mean who cares? They’ll have to blend back into society or not. With the nokkers having ceded the field there’s no more conflict in this time and place, seemingly. Does Fushi lie down for another long nap until the next chapter in their never-ending struggle?
