And they’ll be brief ones, I can tell you that.
I have nothing to say about the episode itself, which was a recap episode. Now the idea of starting a season with a recap episode is pretty silly to me – especially when you’ve only been off for three months. It makes no sense. It leaves me feeling irritated with Ooi Tonbo, and for no good reason. It’ll forgotten soon enough but it’s nevertheless a crap way to start the second season.
As a result of this “premiere”, all my questions about S2 remain in play. Can an Ooi Tonbo set in Kagoshima be as interesting as one set in Hinoshima? What role will Igaiga have to play in Tonbo’s school life? How will Tonbo herself be different after her rather jarring age-up? I’m cautiously optimistic, because the first season was really well-written. But on paper this one looks a lot more conventional, which could be an issue. We’ll get our first clues next week – for now I’m putting this opener in the rear-view as quickly as possible.
