”Not much to see here, move along” is pretty much the takeaway from this week’s Yuuki no Takarabako. The last few episodes have been a considerable upgrade over the opening pair, but there wasn’t a whole lot of meat on the bones here. The sort of material that doesn’t give you much to write about. At this point I’m going to take the approach of whether to cover remaining episodes on a case-by-case basis.
Certainly, I would take the first chapter over the second all day and twice on Sunday. It was really nothing but Bojji being adorable for ten minutes, but who doesn’t love that? We didn’t get to see much of Bojji as king, so even a little taste of it is welcome. He’s no less prone to random acts of kindness and stripping, and you can really get Bebin’s dilemma here. Bebin is right that Bojji has to think about the consequences of his actions differently as the sovereign of his country. But, well – “let Bojji be Bojji” is a tough one to dispute. That whole leaf whistle bit was priceless.
Afer that, though…. I mean, it was inevitable that this spinoff would eventually get around to reminding us of how Ousama Ranking basically jumped the shark. Daida being king, Miranjo existing in the story at all, never mind “all is forgiven” – it’s all part of a very misguided (it’s all subjective, of course) turn of events in the original series. I’ll just say I got nothing from this chapter and leave it at that. Hopefully we see very little focus on this time in the story over the final four episodes.
