Introducing: The Lost in Anime YouTube Channel

At long last, I’m timidly boldly striding into the future.  Today, I’m launching the Lost in Anime YouTube channel.

So why now?  The best answer I can give is, I should have done it a long time ago.  The YouTube channel will be a showcase for some of my passion projects (like manga reviews), and a chance to share some experiences living in Japan.  I see it as an annex wing for the website, something that will supplement what I do here (like the season previews – I’ll post a short video in addition to the blog post).  I hope it will pair nicely with Notaku, as well.  Setsuken and I are taking a re-tooling break until early next year, but Notaku is very much in our future plans.  Notaku will be centered around the podcast and other joint projects; the LiA video channel will be my solo outlet.

Let me be clear – I am by no stretch of the imagination a video editor.  I’ll do the best I can but my focus will be on the content mainly, because that’s what I know how to do.  Of course I would be extremely grateful if you subscribe, comment (either on YouTube or here), and like the videos.  But I have one more request: let me know what you’d like to see in terms of content on the video channel.  Please post your suggestions in the comments below, and in the comments for future videos going forward.  Anyone who’s followed LiA for a while know that I read every comment, and respond to as many as I possibly can.

I hope you enjoy my first video (“Enzo Loves Manga”, featuring Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou).  Thanks as always for all your support, and stay frosty!

So Enzo , what do you think about anime fanbase in the future and making media around them?

It would be good if your channel can go far, but I can’t imagine you will change your stance to accommodate/entice all anime fans, like covering gochiusa in your channel

  2. I think discussions about the nature of segments of the anime fanbase (similar to some of the stuff at Notaku) are quite in-line with my plans for the channel. I’m not going to be a cheerleader or dedicate coverage to material itself if it doesn’t compel me, however.

    Grats on the channel.

I’m old fashioned so I tend to like written reviews of anime/manga, but there’s some stuff (especially anime) that is undoubtedly easier to convey when it’s moving. Gotta get those sakuga shots.

I will say, I’m most excited to see more Japan post in video form. The pictures are gorgeous but I will say that’s one area I wish I could’ve seen the full sweeping scenery in a lot of the places you visit.

  4. Thanks! Will do those for sure, though not doing a lot of traveling this year for obvious reasons.

As noted, the written stuff is still going to be the main building – YT is an annex (to Notaku as well). I’m bright enough at least to know what my strengths are.

I would absolutely love video companions to your Seasonal Previews and End of Season impressions. Apart from that maybe like a hidden gem showcases for either manga or anime. I genuinely would never have discovered Otoyomegatari without your blog posts, so maybe a manga recommendation corner like that could be both successful and helpful for your audience.

  6. Both the manga corner and the preview companion are definitely in my plans. Hidden gem showcases is also something I’ve thought about, or maybe “from the vault” pieces on older series.

    Wow, congratulation Enzo. Subscribe.

I’m expecting “from the vault”, I’ve been watching your recommendation and mostly satisfied.
I just finished NOEIN and that was great. So I’m looking for good older hidden gem anime, and hoping you can recommend some more.

For now, I’m looking from Kazuki Akane’s older works.

  8. Thanks, Raikou. That idea seems to have a lot of traction so for sure, I need to try and make than an ongoing part of the channel.

As far as Akane, if you want something that was his baby to the extent Noein and Hoshiai were, you’re pretty well limited to Heat Guy J. But he did work on an awful lot of good stuff.

Heat Guy J, huh? I heard about it. On my PTW now.

Congratulations on your new YouTube Channel! I can’t wait to watch the “Enzo Love Manga” video; I have read a few volumes of Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou, so I look forward to hearing/watching what you have to say about it! I would definitely be interested in also seeing travel and culture videos about Japan.

Congrats for the launch! Subscribed. Aside from manga, I’d love to hear about your life in Japan, and anything that interests you, be it politics, kindness that you experienced, music or wines. It’s simply great to hear your voice and thoughts. Just my two cents. 🙂

  12. That’s nice of you to say. I have something coming up that may interest you, in that case…

Intrigued…looking forward to but take your time :).

  14. Videos about experiences in Japan are always fun. Maybe some content on pop-up cafes from time to time. Good luck, Enzo!

You started with my ultimate favorite manga of all times so… I had no choice but subscribe 😉

I was a fan of Japan before anime, so I’d totally be into vids about Japan itself… Plus, it sounds like you’re somewhat of a Japan history buff (I think?) so I might even learn some stuff on the way 😛

    Good luck with the channel!
