It’s nice to see than anime can still tell stories like the one Kingdom is telling. Kingdom 2 – 21 It’s not as if the field is crowded with nominees, but it’s pretty hard to think of an anime in the last several years that does better at depicting large […] Read more
Now that’s lycanthropy with a capital “like”. Outbreak Company – 04 I’m still pretty much right on the fence with Outbreak Company. It’s just a little better than you expect it to be – a little smarter, a little more self-aware, a little funnier. Is it brilliant? No, but it […] Read more
Breaking up is hard to do… Tokyo Ravens – 03 Tokyo Ravens is still a series I want to like – and there are parts of it I do like – but it has two huge flaws that are proving hard for me to overcome: too much bad CGI and […] Read more
These are two series with some interesting parallels, but one of them is working considerably better for me than the other. Outbreak Company – 03 Outbreak Company is definitely a better show than I figured it would be going in, though I’m at the three-episode cutoff and it’s still right […] Read more
Mecha and Onmyouji is a pretty unusual pairing for anime. Tokyo Ravens – 02 I place this show is the same broad category as Kyoukai no Kanata in terms of overall quality (perhaps a little better), but the two make an interesting contrast in terms of the reasons why. Whereas […] Read more

Outbreak Company continues to walk a very fine line, but so far pretty effectively. Outbreak Company – 02 I see a lot to like in this series – in fact I enjoyed the second episode more than the first – but I’m not sure that’s going to hold. There’s a […] Read more
No, I’m not typing out that whole damn name. NouKome – 01 I wasn’t originally planning to do a post on this series, but the reactions to it were amusing enough that I figured I might as well give it a watch. It’s certainly one of the weirdest series of […] Read more
So that’s one “maybe” and one “no”. Tokyo Ravens – 01 Tokyo Ravens was solidly in the middle of my expectations range. It’s a story about Onmyoudo, which I like, but it’s a LN adaptation from a studio without a long list of accomplishments. Pretty good but not great staff […] Read more
Gundam may just have topped everyone in the race to be retro. Non Non Biyori – 01 Of all the sleepers on my Fall list, this might have been the deepest. At least, it’s the show that seemed to dovetail least with my tastes in anime. It was strictly a […] Read more
