  1. I like the punchline involving Tom Holland at the end of Chapter 6 of “Older Girl Next Door.” Thanks for the recommendation!

  2. Yeah, that whole Tom Holland thing is pretty hilarious.

  3. And then it escalates …

“Me and My Gangster Neighbor” seems to be great. I just started reading it after your recommendation and it made today for me. I really laughed out loud after the misunderstanding scene with the “ex-husband” about our friendly gangster neighbor’s true nature, especially the part where both Yuuhi and Aoi understood what was going on and tried not to crack up! In most circumstances I find misunderstanding comedy cringe, but here it worked great.

All in all, the series is perhaps a bit to optimistic and the problem with the “friendly gangster” stereotype was already discussed in your review, but nonetheless a big thanks for the recommendation; it really brightened my day. Perhaps sometimes you need this kind of optimism in your life and more people probably should learn to use the technique taught to Yuushi how to deal with verbal abuse! I wish, I had learned that in my formative years. Also, the part about never forgetting the things said to you as a child is just as evident as it is hard hitting for any reflective person.

  5. That “things said to you” moment with Yuuhi’s Mom was heartbreaking.

My favorite comic moment (there are many) may have been when Yuuhi’s middle-school neighbor sees him with a classmate and bemoans “Why would he look at a pimply old hag like me?”
