Greed Island Revisited – The Hunter X Hunter Cafe

Since the Hunter X Hunter takeover of Animate Cafe finally made it to Kobe’s Animate, I decided to pay a visit before it closes on the 28th.  I’m what I call a recovering introvert – one can learn to control the behavior through study and practice, but once an introvert always an introvert – and certain situations make the gene kick in for me.  Blackjack tables and Animate Cafe are two of those, but it helped that there were a few other dudes present this time around.

Here are a few pics of the event – only the production cels were off limits.  Animate has put together a pretty good selection of merch actually, and not grossly overpriced.  As you can see this one (this is the second Animate Cafe H x H promo) is “Greed Island” themed.  My order?  The choco keeki set, complete with gold dust (while it’s perfectly safe to eat and it’s tasteless, I never much liked the idea – but the cake was good) sprinkled on top.

Greed Island almost always gets a bad rep in online discussions I saw. But it always was on of my favourites, despite the fact that the very strong York Shin and Chimera Ant arcs kinda suffocate it. The intensity of the dodge-ball match (Gon and Killua teaming up with Hisoka? Always something extraordinary!); Genthru, Sub and Bara realizing to their horror with whom they are dealing; and last but not least the “Hisoka takes a bath and creeps everyone out except Bisky” episode. This are all memories I will forever cherish. It probably helps that Killua, Hisoka and Gon are my favourites among the vast cast of very entertaining characters.

Let’s all hope, that Togashi’s health permitting it, we someday get a reunion between this three!

  2. I sure hope we do. And I like Greed Island a lot – it and Heaven’s Arena are the two most underrated arc for me.

Arebyou still posting reviews of HxH? The latest chapter are hype!

  4. The plan is to get back to doing so eventually, once the chaos of the first couple of weeks of the season sorts itself out.
