Not more damn analogies, Enzo! When literalism fails you, a writer must look elsewhere for means to get their point across.  Togashi-sensei, Koujina and Madhouse keep pushing me, forcing the linguistic equivalent of Chimera-paced evolution in the effort to communicate how mind-bogglingly good this series is.  And since Togashi himself […] Read more

To try and do justice to “Chimera Ant” – how can it be done?  At the moment I can only think to borrow the words of Dave Eggers – it is indeed a heartbreaking work of staggering genius. I’m pretty much incoherent after that whopper of an episode, so you’ll […] Read more

“Idiot”, my ass… I’m not patient or fastidious enough to regularly track who the animation directors for specific episodes of Hunter X Hunter are, but I’m assuming they brought out one of the big guns – Mori Tomoko or Abiru Takahiro, maybe – for this one, and likely next week’s […] Read more

Time is definitely an elastic concept with Hunter X Hunter. Among the many things I must credit Togashi and Koujina-sensei with, it seems one is temporal manipulation, because there’s no way in hell that was 22 minutes.  In terms of real-time it seems as if this might have been one […] Read more

You know, this show is actually pretty good. Hunter X Hunter really is the gift that keeps on giving.  There’s seemingly no end to the ways it can entertain and astound me.  To those who complain that “Chimera Ant” is too paced too slowly I can only ask – why?  […] Read more

There’s just nobody like Togashi Yoshihiro. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – material like this makes me wonder how Togashi is able to write as quickly as he does, not complain that he isn’t faster.  The layers upon layers of subterfuge and psychological intrigue he builds […] Read more

Chalk one up for innovation and weakness of the flesh. Unless you’re one of the contingent who soured on Hunter X Hunter during this arc because of the narrative structure and narration itself, you’ve been utterly spoiled like me by the astonishing – and astonishingly consistent – run the series […] Read more
