If anime were played at bars on casino floors in Vegas, Psycho-Pass 2 would be a perfect fit. Shirobako – 03 Shirobako continues to be a modestly interesting take on the trials and tribulations of the anime production process, though I do find myself wishing it would refrain from inserting […] Read more
Three episodes isn’t always enough… Gugure! Kokkuri-san – 03 Gugure! Kokkuri-san is going to be a tough series to decide on, blogging-wise. I definitely like it, but my concern from the beginning was whether the humor here would be a little one-note and hard to sustain over a full cour. […] Read more
Is Sausage moe? Shirobako – 02 Otto von Bismarck said that “The making of laws is like the making of sausages – the less you know about the process the more you respect the result”. As far as Shirobako is concerned, I haven’t yet decided if anime is like law. […] Read more
If this is it for me and Hitsugi no Chaika, there are certainly no hard feelings. Gundam Build Fighters Try – 02 I’m starting to remember why I didn’t blog Gundam Build Fighters, even though I did end up liking it an awful lot. I like Try, too – probably […] Read more
There’s more style than substance here so far. Nanatsu no Taizai – 02 Of the two adaptations of quite new shounen manga this season (both starring Kaji Yuuki), there’s no question The Seven Deadly Sins is the better-produced as compared to World Trigger. Beware of dog. World Trigger – 02 It seems as if World Trigger has become pretty much a universal punching bag since its premiere, but I must confess I rather like it. I certainly won’t deny that the animation and background detail is mediocre at best, but ultimately I can […] Read more
Enter the Furuya. Shirogane no Ishi Argevollen – 14 The action is definitely heating up with Argevollen, both on the battlefield and off. It’s becoming quite clear who the real bad guys are here, not that it hasn’t been looking obvious for a while. There’s some new terminology thrown around […] Read more
There’s certainly no doubt the second ep of Denkigai was creepy and uncomfortable. The question is, was it trying to be? Denkigai no Honya-san – 02 There’s a funny sort of disconnect with otaku-themed series like this one, shows that play up the otaku meta-humor so explicitly. At what point […] Read more
Does Urobuchi Gen know something we don’t? Shirobako – 01 If Wake Up!, Girls! and Bakuman had an illegitimate child, it might look a lot like Shirobako. And how much that prospect appeals to you might go a long way toward determining how much you’ll enjoy this show. With Mizushima […] Read more
The mayuge are back. Hitsugi no Chaika: Avenging Battle – 01 Hitsugi no Chaika seems a fitting symbol of this season overflowing with middling shows, given that it remained squarely on the blogging fence for as long as any show ever has. I managed to get through an entire cour […] Read more
