Second Impressions – Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card-hen

I’m traveling and hopelessly behind schedule on anime and everything else besides, so I’m going to have to be succinct in my next few posts.  Let’s blow out a quick one on CCS:

  • Club time.  Syaoran always has “things to do” and never wants to tell Sakura what they are.
  • Speaking of clubs, looks like Sakura is going to be a cheerleader (though I guess the ED gave that away).
  • I’d kind of forgotten to what extent, but Tomoyo is a lot to take.  I sort of hope she’s not this prominent for the entire series – a little bit of her goes a long way.
  • I thought Touya already found out about Kero-chan.  Am I remembering that wrong?  Not that their little dance isn’t entertaining.
  • Needs more Sakura-Syaoran, less Sakura-Tomoyo.
  • Was there this much food porn in the first series?  My memory is hazy there too, but all I remember is something vague about Sakura liking to bake.

We’ll see whether CCS is a blogging candidate long-term.  It’s a fun nostalgia ride for sure and really well-done – a bit of a cuteness overload for sure, but among the very best of its character class.  I’m just not sure yet whether I’m going to find enough to say about it every week.  Right now the season looks to have a roughly average amount of potential blogging candidates, but they’re concentrated right around this time of the week.  No decision yet.

whaaaaaat tomoyo is the best part of the show

  2. ROFL, I know she’s popular. It all comes down to personal tastes.

  3. IIRC Touya totally has Kero figured out (and he’s got a hazy idea of what Sakura is up to as well) but hasn’t been sure how to broach the subject. Honestly I could see Touya just messing with the both of them (ie, acting like he doesn’t know what’s going on) just to mess with them, he already teases Sakura quite a bit!

Yeah, there was a lot of baking in the previous show, especially because Kero-chan (still) has a penchant for sweets, Sakura kept baking things for her friends to eat, going to bakeries, and other episodic food related shenanigans. Mostly, if not all, just desserts of varying kinds.
