It’s another very special episode of the My Taste is Better Than Yours podcast! For the first time we’re covering a series chosen by LiA patron vote – Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu (The Summer Hikaru Died). This seinen manga is already a breakout hit in Japan, and has an anime coming later this year. Both Samu and I are pretty big fans of this one and believe it could go really big after the anime drops (if they get it right).
For the record, the patron ballot consisted of the following series:
- Youchien Wars
- Tokyo Aliens
- Yofakushi no Uta
- Dogsred
- Yomi no Tsugai
- Seihantai na Kimi to Boku
- Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu

January 28, 2025 at 7:07 amNice! I haven’t read much of this yet, but it made a big impression. The odd, flippant Hikar2 is interesting to read.
I cannot remember encountering similar stories. ‘The me you love in the dark’ and ‘His face all red’ have a spooky vibe, with entities attempting to be human. But those do not have the friendly (?) style of this one.
Very much interested in knowing how this will end. Thanks for covering it!
