Second Impressions – Kimi wa Meido-sama (You Are Ms. servant)

Yeah, I really don’t get this one at all. In the final analysis who’s directing a show doesn’t matter of course. What matters  is whether it works for you, and Kimi wa Meido-sama really doesn’t. But I’m fascinated by mysteries, and why the top director in TV anime ended up on a series about which I can find absolutely nothing distinctive – never mind exceptional – definitely qualifies as one.

I don’t dislike this show. But in a funny way that’s part of the problem – it gives me nothing to react to. It’s just utterly generic and recycled. And not even exceptional visually, which is another odd component given the pedigree. I’m certainly dropping it (and yes, I decided that before the lolimouto showed up post-credits). But doing so without being able to connect the dots does annoy me. Is there something about this premise or any of these characters that I’m just missing?

So, in sum – Hitoyoshi, nice kid. Meido-sama, tragic past. Moeblob dog. Lolimouto. If the writing were deeper maybe this would have heartwarming potential, but the premise is just sort of foisted on you, and it’s not like we haven’t seen it countless times already. It doesn’t even have ecchi like To LOVE-Ru or that ilk. What’s the point, especially with Watanabe? It’s an anime version of cryptozoology, that’s for sure.
