Katsute Mahou Shoujo to Aku wa Tekitai shiteita. – 08

To be honest it seems like Katsute Mahou Shoujo to Aku wa Tekitai shiteita. has kind of checked out on anything resembling a serious plot. At least I have one way or the other. It’s basically just about the supporting cast and their seiyuu having fun, and actually that’s kind of OK. I mean, for the moment at least it’s enough – these are some very good actors (Mike Shinichirou especially) and they’re really delivering the goods.

Mira isn’t even really going through the motions anymore. He’s openly shopping for Christmas presents for Byakuya at work. Which is basically a big “don’t give a flip” on two fronts, shopping at work and shopping for your company’s mortal enemy. We meet three of his loopy co-invaders, all with big name seiyuu. Of these three, Bella, gets the biggest laugh lines interpreting everything the other two (Alycone and Spica) say about Mira’s intent with Byakuya to be about her (and hentai).

Meanwhile, Kitty has found Byakuya a new gig – serving shabu-shabu without panties (on her, not the shabu-shabu). I know he’s a scumbag, of course, but by God Miki is having such a great time with this guy I ROFL every time he opens his gob. Money is tight – thanks to Cat’s nights out – but Byakuya doesn’t seem too keen on the assignment. What she is keen on is inviting Mira over for Christmas dinner (after she works of course – that’s time and a half), which presumably means the two of them and Cat sitting down to eat together. That should be fun.

Not to be forgotten, Hibina and her f*cks make an appearance when she and Birdy bump into the main pair shopping in town. And as great as Miki is soloing, pairing him off with Midorikawa Hikaru is divine resonance. These two war horses (born six weeks apart) have phenomenal comic chemistry and only Isa Mariya dropping incongruous F-bombs like fireflies in June keeps them from crowding out everything else. It’s all great fun when the three of them are on-screen. Not anything more substantial than that, probably, but great fun is nothing to sneeze at.

Yep, there doesn’t seem to be any sense conflict in the series anymore or taking things seriously. We’re led to believe that Byakuya’s familiar goes to restaurants, bars, hostess clubs and buying beer and cigarettes at the convenience store while looking like an adult man wearing a cat suit. And that the same goes for Hibana’s birdman, whatever he does in his free time.

It’s nearly Christmas and everybody’s making plans for that. That includes Mira, who indeed is no longer hiding the fact that there might be somebody special in his life. Fomalhaut is out, but I expect that he’ll be in the next episode and we learn that he just came back from the North Pole to fetch Santa. So, we spend some time with his other co-workers, such as Bella, who seems to be the type who ships everybody. That includes herself as she gets caught up in her delusions about Mira. Yep, I can totally see her writing erotic fiction under a pen name.

While Byakuya is out on the town, they run into Hibana and here comes more bites. As usual, birdman and catman are bickering. It looks like Byakuya and Hibana will be making each other something special for Christmas. Speaking of that, Byakuya is inviting Mira over for Christmas dinner and it’ll be interesting to see how that goes. At some point, I’d like to see them ride in that ferris wheel that’s always in the background.
