The 2022 votes are in, and it couldn’t be a greater contrast with last year’s poll. For 2021 there were two major firsts: my #1 series (Kai Byoui Ramune) didn’t make your top ten and yours (Odd Taxi) didn’t make mine. That oddity (no pun intended) reflected a year without standouts at the top. 2022 had two of them, and your top two shows were the same as mine, in the same order. I was also curious to see who would prevail in the private kaiju battle between Spy x Family and Chainsaw Man, and it was the Forgers – SxF tied for 6th (4.92%) while CSM nicked the final spot in the top 10 with 3.55% (actually a three-way tie for 9th).
I wasn’t surprised to see Bocchi and Cyberpunk Edgerunners place so highly despite neither really clicking with me – both were legit hits. For that reason I was kind of surprised Bisque Doll and Licorice Broccoli didn’t crack the top ten. Over at RC the top 5 was SxF, Bocchi, CSM (Forgers win again!), Cyperpunk, and 86 Season 2. MiA and Mob finished 6th and 7th (and were the only series on both lists). DDD and Koutarou were under 1% and Chikyuugai got no votes at all. I’ll leave you to guess which electorate I think has the better taste!

The Top 3 from RandomC’s readers poll was a near exact match to the readers poll from ANN. “Spy x Family” took the top spot in both while “Chainsaw Man” and “Bocchi the Rock!” swapped 2nd and 3rd. “Yofukashi no Uta” did really well here, but were out of the Top 10 from both RandomC and ANN. It looks like “Spy x Family” did the best with 2 wins and a 3-way tie for 5th here. “Dance Dance Danseur” was part of that 3-way tie, but it didn’t make much of an impression at RandomC’s poll.
Certainly a big wildcard is that “Golden Kamuy” could not be included as it was postponed mid-season and will resume in Spring 2023. We can only speculate how well it could have done if the show ran its course. “Mob Psycho 100 III” was my AOTY pick too.
It was fun to compare the results from 3 different sites and to see what results matched and which ones did not.
