The perpetual question with Osomatsu-san – will this be the last season? The fact that we’re not getting a multi-part “serious” season finale this time is interesting, though whether or not it makes another season more or less likely I’m not sure. After three seasons and a movie you’d think a gag comedy would be running out of ideas, but this season has actually felt pretty fresh to me.
- No epic, but we did get a meta opening sketch here, with Osomatsu openly talking about getting the season done without a hitch. Which was, of course, followed by many hitches.
- The return of New Osomatsu, and new new Osomatsu et al, was pretty much just a random kitchen sink kind of thing to get every element possible some screen time.
- I did enjoy the Kimetsu parody with New Osomatsu (and his seiyuu).
- Poor Totty. But at least it was flattering.
- The A-1 Grand Prix wasn’t the season finale after all, which makes me wonder if the Musubi have finished their part in all this.
- I’d been thinking Fujita and Matsubara were much more at peace with the burden of creating this show, but that interlude about Akatsuka Fujio being a lech and a drunk was pretty goddam dark.
- I guess all that stuff about the order of appearance is probably pretty true, especially for a comedy competition.
- Miyu-Miyu and Endou Aya hosting was… interesting. Especially since it was played totally straight.
- A Roomba and the Nespresso robot being finalists was a nice touch.
- Turns out the Musubi are truly chips off the old block. Not only did they get disqualified and blackballed they managed to get the competition itself terminated.

March 25, 2021 at 9:21 amthis franchise has big potential. can be as long as simpsons, rick and morty etc. but still writing comedy is hard. I’d like them to make more episodes in different period setting though like stone age , medieval etc.

March 26, 2021 at 3:47 pmThis episode really broke with the tradition of the past two seasons’ 24th episodes… who knows, they could go serious for the last one? I’m kind of doubting it at this point, however
