Osomatsu-san does make you think about stuff, sometimes. Like, if you had a daughter and she had to marry one of the Matsuno brothers, which one would you pick (there is a correct answer*)? This ep got me musing on the “which sextuplet is most likely to end up being a serial killer”, but – while it might seem like there are multiple candidates – it seems pretty clear to me that Choromatsu is the only answer.
- We start off with our first true meta-humor in a while, which has the next season in jeopardy because of difficult contract negotiations for the boys. I always find these moments where it seems as if Fujita and Matsubara are making a plea for rescue to be fascinating.
- While this season has been uneven, I actually find myself rather hoping the series does return, whereas I was pretty indifferent after the last one. S3 has made a stronger emotional connection somehow.
- The clothes-shopping thing was dumb, but amusing. Very Python-esque, as Osomatsu-san so often is.
- The meat of the episode by far was “Friends”. It was disturbing and hilarious in turns, but managed to be quite surprising in the end. And I do appreciate Osomatsu-san’s ability to surprise me at the end of these extended sketches.
- “Tacchan” (Ono Yuuki) was an interesting addition straight away, and the writing did a good job of hiding the truth for most of his appearance.
- The representations of the other sextuplets in high school were amusing (that’s sort of a gap in the history) but in hindsight they make a lot more sense, considering the source.
- “The Professor of Porn” is definitely a title I could see Fappymatsu acquiring. But it took an imaginary Tacchan to bestow it. How sad is that?
- The “girlfriend” being a sex doll – yeah, should have seen that coming. And I certainly should have seen what it tipped off was coming next.
- The “Imaginary Friend” riff at the end with Ichimatsu and Osomatsu was interesting because historically this show almost never does epilogues. That’s why the explanation was so ingenious.
