Thanks for the shout out, always nice to hear a fellow YGOTAS fan.
Also, this is simply nitpicking, but I’m a male, I realized the moment you said “she” that my name is similar to Ella, but Elia is a common Italian name for males, same as Andrea (male name in Italy), it’s kinda funny ’cause is instead a female name in German and English speaking countries.

  2. Heh, sorry about that. I was going to correct him at the time but after he finished I’d forgotten about it.

Ups, I totally forgot my question.
Guys, what do you think of anitubers in general? Youtubers like Gigguk, TheAnimeMan, Mother’s Basement or Super Eyepatch Wolf to name a few

I’m liking the new format with the weekly focus on anime news and a monthly deep dive into a topic. However, I do miss the “what we’re watching” and “manga rec” sections. Those were a nice, brief way to talk about a particular series or manga each week. I’ll throw out a suggestion that perhaps you could alternate those along with the news–what you’re watching one week (picking just one or two shows) and then a manga rec the next.

As for Netflix anime–that was an interesting article. I don’t think I’ve ever watched a Netflix anime because none of the ones they’ve done so far have interested me enough to make me subscribe. (I resist having a ton of subscriptions to various streaming sites). I thought the article went a bit too far in making it sound like anime as it currently gets made in Japan is somehow free from having its content driven by marketing data in some instances or influenced by other cultures. I don’t think anime exists in a bubble. Or perhaps the author’s main concern is that Netflix won’t make anime set in Japan and more focused on daily life in Japan. Which might be a valid issue, although again, it’s not like that’s what all anime are about now. But I can see the concerns that rather than opening up creative opportunity, Netflix would simply force its series into a certain mold. I mean, I certainly don’t want Netflix anime to all develop into clones of various Western animated series.

  5. I like that idea – we’ll discuss it on the podcast I think.

I’m not enthusiastic about most Netflix anime so far, but Great Pretender was the clear standout among them.

Good episode, as always. Keep experimenting!

I was thinking about deep dives topics, and I must say that story about animation studios would be interesting. While Ghibli would seem an obvious choice, I find myself most curious about the rise and fall of Manglobe or Gonzo for instance; what led to their end, what becomes of their anime portfolios, which studio arose from their ashes (so to speak), etc. But maybe that’s just me 🙂
