It’s another travel week for me, so apologies for the belated and abbreviated nature of this week’s Osomatsu-san post…
- OK, that “Sanematsu-san” thing – let’s talk about that.
- First of all, it was… strangely compelling. But what was the point it was trying to make? Was it a spoof of a Japanese TV show I’m not aware of?
- That ending – seriously disturbing. And I think it was meant to be.
- As to the “UMA Expedition Team” sketch, that was certainly the straight-up comedy number of the week. One of the joys of this series is you can come up with almost infinite combinations of cast members, but I confess Iyami, Hatabou and Jyuushimatsu was one that never occurred to me.
- Again, though – disturbing end.
- “The Choromatsu Incident” was again strangely compelling, but a bit hard to figure out in terms of the point.
- In any event, it was worth it for the facial expressions alone.
- New OP was excellent, as usual. But was there a hint of self-loathing to that ED, though?

January 12, 2018 at 4:07 pm– Indeed the face game was strong in this episode
– Did they sneak some Beatles ref in the new OP visuals? I think I glimpsed some Yellow Submarine vibes center-left of the screen at some point…
– I plaud this series for giving naked men their nipples even in plaster busts form. Also that was a lot of real paint and glitter to sacrifice for an ED. Budget power.
– The point in Choro’s new look sketch? There is more than one I feel but I am too tired to articulate – also honesty you might be more equipped to delve into siblinghood matters -. My bad. TL;DR siblings’ dynamics are complicated? crimes of righteousness, cowardice, condenscendence and best intentions? not taking responsability for one’s choices/scapegoating ahoy?
– The Mongolian Death Worm…. and a few of his fellow UMAs looked a lot like a few youma in the classic old Sailor Moon anime. The worm itself reminded me of a cross between a certain flashback sequence (Uranus x Neptune and the red angry wormy toothy tentacley thing of doom in the S season!) and the desert alien(?) monsters in Tremors (1990) :°DDD .
And that hot-blooded gun-toting bravado straddling the fine, FINE line between old school heroism and utter idiocy, no sheeeeeht.
– Sanematsu… dream of a butterfly, pining of the RL(?) grayman, TV show-‘reality’-animated live action Matsu-ception. Too many feels and too deep and too pine in the mirror for this viewer at his ungodly hour :.)

January 12, 2018 at 4:21 pmYes, I definitely got a Yellow Submarine vibe out of that. Can’t be coincidental.
