I'm surprised you didn't say anything about Kataoka's conversation with Rei. Of course, whatever he says, I'm with you as far as his quitting: I'll believe it when I see it. That said, I could see it going either way at this point–Ochiai has been humanized immensely and Kataoka, at least in words, just shot down all the signs that he might make an aboutface. We shall see.
Honestly, Kawakami has always been the most perplexing character for me. Ever since I realized he was the one whom Eijun stood up for back in the pilot, I've been waiting to see him shine in some way. And the hints are there, like Oota calling him his favorite pitcher last week, so I was hoping the sinker would be that glorious moment, but no. Frankly, when you add in the pilot, Kawakami's been a weakling since the beginning of high school, so I hope Nabe's critique and a pinch of freshman-envy spurs a change soon.
I'm torn on Kataoka – right now I think it's 50-50 whether he leaves or not, If I were a betting man I'd say Seidou wins the Fall tounrey and he still leaves, as that would be the most dramatic outcome, but I sure wouldn't give odds.
I kind of wish they'd officially name Kawakami an as-needed relief pitcher and be done with it. I don't have any interest in him competing with Eijun and Furuya.

October 30, 2015 at 4:58 amAgreed. Except after giving him so much screen time with nothing to show for it, I'd be miffed if they wrote him off NOW.
