I think it's not that Mikan doesn't have a conscience. It's probably more like she doesn't want to break the status quo she and Asahi has: that of the bickering childhood friends. Poor girl seems to be going down the unlucky childhood friend route.
And still a great episode throughout. Love that twist on the last part.
