A source linked to the Hunter X Hunter franchise told the Mainchi Shimbun paper’s Mantan Web site that production on the first anime film based onYoshihiro Togashi‘s manga has been green-lit. Even though there have been two television anime series, including one ongoing one, there have not been a theatrical anime in the 14 years of the manga’s serialization. According to Mainichi’s source, the story of the film be an entirely original one.According to Mainichi, Togashi will publish a message in this year’s 16th issue of Shueisha‘s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine on Monday.
It’ll be interesting to see the details on this – I assume Madhouse will be producing.

March 14, 2012 at 1:02 pmWhile this is good news, it comes with a price – the manga is going on hiatus once again. It's the longest he went to release chapters so I should have seen this coming. Still, dammit Togashi…
It's either he's thinking up for the new arc for the manga, he's helping for the movie or he's taking a break.
Either way, I mad. >:(

March 14, 2012 at 2:37 pmAs a long time fan of HxH, I'm ecstatic that they're finally going to make a movie adaption. Although, since it's an original story, I wonder where it's going to take place? And hopefully it's after the Heaven's Arena arc. The characters are usually busy with their own goals/fights etc. and they don't have much breaks in-between. The movie could be off canon for all I know, but I really hope it doesn't disappoint me.
However like belatkuro said, the manga once again is going on hiatus. While I'm not actually frustrated about the turn of events here, Togashi seemed to be rushing to get to chp 340 so that there would enough chapters for vol 30. So I'm willing to wait for the hiatus end.
