Here I was thinking this was the finale of the first season of KtB, but they’re sneaking an extra ep in next week.  As this is indeed finale week for Tamayura and Majikoi, Kimi to Boku gets its very own post – as there’s no dance partners for a digest…

In some ways, it seems as if the side characters in this series get more actual development than the leads, who seem to exist primarily as avatars to drive the slice-of-life week-in and week-out.  No complaints, as they’re all likeable enough, but I’d have rather seen an episode about Shun’s love life – sphinx-like mystery that it is – than his brother’s.  But no, we do get one about Fuyuki (Nobuhiko Okamaoto) who’s three years younger and nothing whatsoever like his brother (and that’s putting it mildly).  Frankly, Fuyuki seems to have more testosterone than the five main characters put together, and it’s rather humiliating for them – especially Chizuru – to discover than Fuyuki is miles ahead of them in terms of his romantic development.  He’s got as girlfriend, Mamiya, and even knows that boobs are supposed to feel like upper arms.

Not all that much happens really, but stuff happening isn’t really the strong point of this series anyway.  There are quite a few amusing moments as the main cast goes back to their middle school to accompany Shun as he delivers Fuyuki’s English notebook to him.  Chizuru gets mistaken for a middle-schooler and gets his phone confiscated, Shun and Yuta get a chance to show their chops in the kendo club (they used to be members), we run across yet another cougar who seems rather taken with Yuuki, and most amusingly, Fuyuki gets his precious first time at second base stolen by an elderly teacher’s wrinkled plums.  Fuyuki is quite the snark – I couldn’t help but laugh when he told Shun ”If you don’t use it, it’ll rot away.” and groped him.  There’s also love awkward fumbling between Fuyuki and Mamiya, who frets endlessly about her stinky kendo armor.  After watching Bamboo Blade I get that kendo armor is legendary for the stench – isn’t being in middle school awkward enough?
