Fresh on the heels of the release of Shinkai Makoto’s Hoshi o Ou Kodomo on BD/DVD, word comes that the other “Next Miyazaki”, Hosoda Mamoru, has a new film coming in July. I hate that next Miyazaki nonsense and I don’t see the need for such comparisons, but in truth I’ve always felt that of the two, Hosoda-sensei was much closer in style and substance to Miyazaki. The film will be titled Okami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki, and it looks to be on the wistful side and fantasy-driven. Once again Hosoda will be teaming with the legendary Sadamoto Yoshiyuki and much of his team from Summer Wars and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. Needless to say, this immediately becomes the most anticipated anime of 2012.

December 14, 2011 at 4:25 amI hear ya on the whole "Next Miyazaki" stuff. I love some old studio ghibli and Miyazaki. SW and TGWLTT were also great(especially TGWLTT) but when people say someone is compared to Miyazaki thats some big shoes to fill. Im not even talking about making good anime cuz Shinkai Makoto and Hosoda Mamoru both do but Miyazaki is responsible for why alot of "normal Americans" know that anime exist. Also, I doubt those two even care about being the "Next Miyazaki". They want to walk there own path.
