“Leaf Aquarium”

So here we have the first of four planned bonus episodes of Usagi Drop, one per Blu-Ray volume.  Obviously there’s not a lot to say about a four-minute mini-episode except “watch it”.  This is pure slice-of-life – a few scenes taken from the early timeline of the anime with no real attempt to string them into a narrative.  It’s simply Rin and Daikichi doing what they do, and that’s good enough for me.  The topic this time is Rin’s project of making fishes out of the autumn leaves that have fallen around the yard, and Daikichi’s clever encouragement and involvement. One thing I love about Daikichi is that he’s never lost touch with his childlike side, and this little montage highlights that in a very understated way.  Very cute and very winning.
