My guess is that they are planning for a second game to be released soon, so they want a new anime to promote it.
As for the million pound question that many will ask themselves, will they come back for another season?
The first series was a mix bag of not only good and bad stories, but also good and bad episodes. The experiment in ominbus format had been a success apparently in sales, but it was a let down in stories. So if this promises to be the same, I don't know if I'll be interested to come back for another dosage of pain …
But seriously, what?

But I think this is sign that a new game is in the making. Yeah, I think they are planing to make the anime coincide with a new game release.

Fate/Zero the story before the fate stay night, where Saber is awesome cool is coming out. MORE IMPORTANTLY Boku ha Tomodachi ga Sukunai: is coming out. Another favourite light novel is coming to anime. Arrgh I cannot wait.I want I want it now.
