Nope.
I was ready to give this show a shot, based on releasing it from any unrealistic expectations. Oreimo it isn’t – but to be fair, it makes no pretense to be. And the thing is, the execution isn’t bad. The character designs and look are interesting, the writing occasionally quite sharp and I’ll give it full credit for pulling no punches when it comes to the material. So why drop it?
Simply put, after the second episode the show has an extremely mean-spirited feel to it for me. Iroha was not a good addition – she’s clearly a bit nuts, and ready to use the fact that she and Shuusuke played “Doctor” as kids to blackmail him into screwing her. Frankly, she makes Nao with her straightforward cock-teasing seem like an innocent babe by comparison. If you think it’s enjoyable to see a guy’s life turned into a living hell for nothing more than having normal teenage desires then by all means, this could be very enjoyable – as I said, the writing isn’t bad and it certainly doesn’t hold back on the titillation.
But I don’t, so I think two eps is the limit for me. I don’t see what Shuu did that was so terrible and I don’t especially enjoy watching two girls who aren’t very likable themselves torture him relentlessly (and it seems obvious that’s going to be an every week occurrence). The irony in all this, of course, is that it’s Nao and Iroha who are the real sex-crazed pervs here – Shuu is just a normal mope. With no one on the series to like (feeling sorry for Shuu isn’t the same as liking him as a character) – there’s just not much to fall back on.
