Very Brief Impressions – Osomatsu-san, Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru, Comet Lucifer

Who knew Osomatsu-san was going to be such a black comedy?

Osomatsu-san – 03: This show is, if anything, getting weirder.  And filthier too.  With a switch to the short vignette format this week (seemingly temporary) inevitably the episode is going to have more ups and downs.  The “Saw” spoof was absolutely inspired, but that whole business with Dekapan-man pulling things out of his pants and then getting shot in the head?  I just don’t know, man…  And the sento sketch with the wieners was pretty out there, too.

I’m still laughing enough to keep me coming back, by a comfortable margin. We’ll see if that translates to blogging, though.

Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru – 03: The things that annoy me about Sakurako-san aren’t getting any better – the silliness component is pretty high and he dialogue is way too mannered and self-aware for its own good.  But it is interesting, mostly because of the odd relationship between  Sakurako and Shoutarou.  I would imagine that will only intensify now that he knows who Soutarou was – her deceased younger brother.

I don’t know exactly what’s going on in this relationship, but Sakurako and Shoutarou definitely have a couple vibe going on (as Yuriko picked up on) whether they want to admit it or not.  I hope this series explores that relationship beyond a skin-deep veneer, but given medium of the source material I fear that isn’t going to be the case.

Comet Lucifer – 03: The charm of Comet Lucifer started to wear pretty thin this week.  The moe factor with Felia and Moura definitely went into the red zone (it was really the seiyuu performances that pushed it across the line) and made it impossible to enjoy any of the rest of the episode.  That was an obvious danger even after last week’s pretty entertaining episode, but we reached saturation more quickly than  I’d expected.  I’m not supremely optimistic there’s a road back from here, but I’ll give the series another week or two to prove me wrong.

Osomatsu really is a hit-and-miss show. Some things are hilarious, some just don't work. For example, first half of episode 2 was kinda meh, second half was better. This episode, Dekapan-man wasn't so good, but the Saw, the wiener and sleeping segments were hilarious. And I didn't even know what the hell they were parodying in the first one.

I don't think they were even parodying something specifically (well, besides the 2001: A space Odissey reference with the planets shoot at the beginning). It was just total randomness/subverting the viewer's expectations.

I didn't find Dekapanman funny in itself, but it sort of morbidly glued me to the screen in a "what the hell is he going to do next that's even more outrageous" way. And yeah, Oaw and wieners for the win XD.

It felt like they were satirizing the repetitiveness and banality of horror movies in the 'Saw' portion of the episode, the 'OAW 2'… 'OAW Episode 0' had me in stitches. The rest was pretty meh compared to ep1&2, and dekapanman is a huge creep.
