Binan Koukou Chikyuu Bouei-bu Love! – 03

It’s just so, so silly, but I can’t stop myself laughing.

I think this may have been my favorite episode of Binan Koukou Chikyuu Bouei-bu Love! so far – it was certainly the funniest, start to finish. I’m still not sure if this is a show that’s going to be bloggable every week, but it sure it watchable.  The tongue is far enough in-cheek and the commitment to the premise is strong enough for the series to pull this off.  With Takamatsu Shinji directing I always felt pretty good about that, but after three eps I think it’s safe to stop worrying about it.

Among my favorite moments this week:

  • Kinjou and Midousuji transplanted, with Kouji Yusa joining up as the Caerula Adamas dupe-of-the-week Kuratori-sensei.
  • Kurotori-sensei in general – a ludicrous popinjay of a ballet teacher hired because the principal thought he was hiring a volleyball teacher.  Then again, this is the same principal who holds a monthly “pretty boy” competition in an all-boys school.
  • Yumoto’s “I love seeing it – and showing it!” approach to life.
  • Zandar’s plan being built around convincing boys to love other boys, and thus stopping the human race from propagating.  Is he from Ikebukuro?
  • Kinugawa’s “Did you just come out?” reaction to Yumoto’s confession that he loved seeing young gang leaders in yakuza movies.
  • Yufuin’s reasoning for why it’s better to be loved by men than women.
  • Ryuu’s method of romancing the Triplets (Mizushima Takahiro) – and the results.
  • Io’s urinal reveal – whipping out his long, fat bank statement.
  • Kurotori’s “Give me hug!” moment – not to mention his “I love me!” epiphany.
  • The very idea that the resolution consists of convincing a raging narcissist that loving himself is the key to happiness.

Make no mistake, this is pretty clever stuff – it has to be to embrace its essential baka nature as unreservedly as it does.  Binan Koukou knows exactly what it’s doing here, and it’s doing it very well indeed so far.

i thought this was another BL or fujoushi fanservice before it aired, glad i tried to have a go at it

Another thing I like about the show is its choice to cast a bunch of up-and-coming seiyuu as the Defense club and have them fight against villains all voiced by veteran big-names seiyuus which immediately gives the Defense club an underdog quality for those in the know.

I especially loved the Princess Tutu shout-outs this week! (come on, a black bird who dances ballet and demands that everyone love him unconditionally?) Great episode this week!

I am convcinced that not a single person working on this series gives a damn about conventions and it is batshit glorious. I had to stop the video a few times to get the laughter out of my system. Or sit there repeating oh my GOD while helplessly shaking my head. One or the other.

*after watching Green/Epinard's impressive Leap o' Luv ahead of his companions* beware the quiet ones…
I must say the more I see and hear of Lord Zundar the more he cracks me up. Uhuh ^.^ . Never mnd the zombie teacher, I'm finding the Binan's club combined Love Stick way scarier.

In terms of shoutouts I suspect someone among the staff is a fan of Pollon among other shows… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFjs-qlNhG0 (check around the 1:00 mark until the end).
P.S.: Enzo don't the triplets look like Major's Komori :,)?

May I ask, are your screencaps available for use by other anime bloggers?

  8. I would certainly prefer people don't do that on a regular basis. Once in a while, not a big deal. Definitely no hotlinking though, as it slows down the website.

Thank you for responding! I appreciate it!
