Like the other Sunrise premiere this week Phi Brian, Kyōkai Senjō no Horizon didn’t make much of an impression on me.  It started and ended with a lot of long-winded exposition, and in between was an extended chase scene and a lot of weak humor and not terribly exciting school combat.  It’s easy to compare this to Maji de Watashi ni Koishinasai, in that both feature non-stop action in kind of war games format, but the similarity ends there – I found MajiWaKo much more fun.  It made no attempt to explain itself and the silliness was much more over-the-top and – for me at least – funny.  “Horizon” looked bright and crisp and was animated well, as all Sunrise shows are, but it was pretty generic in the way far too many Sunrise shows are, too.  Huge names in the cast, big pre-sales on Amazon, but no spark for me.  As I almost always do I’ll give it another week to interest me.

Too many characters! and too many names! And i thought Fate Zero was hard. Well, i'll give it another 3 episodes or so. I think it is pretty good first episode. The students are different races so their abilities are different? more confusion. But i can live with that, found the action fluid, especially the panning low camera. Just wanna see what the main guy can do. Useless but still the section representative. Wonder why.

When I read the description, I thought it would be awesome, giving it a 4/5 preview rating, even. A post-apocalyptic war as people try to re-enact history, with this giant floating archaic ship? I thought it would be all big and mysterious and old and breaking down, with the characters much more 1600-ish, but… they're just kids in the modern day, complete with eroge. If they were going to make something that's really still set in modern times, why bother with such a big history?

Also, that main character with the scary smile – I thought he would be a villain, cause only villains smile like that. I had no idea he would be the main character >_>
