Dororon Enma-kun Meeramera – 10

Go Nagai definitely had access to the good stuff in the 70’s – of that there can be no doubt.

It’s not every anime that gives you the line “Did you really have to fist me?!!” Nor is is every anime that has a yuri scene where a demon gives a 12 year-old girl a hand job. I wonder if any of that was covered in Bill 156?

After terrifying me by pretending to offer a recap episode, Dororon launched into the depravity pretty much right from the opening bell in this episode. Frost Goblin and Fire Goblin were still engaged in a war of noses – I mean, words – as they simultaneously did battle with the Rubberbabybuggybumoerasaurus demon, and with the audience’s sensibilities. Turns out the demon was an ancient “Devourer of Galaxies” that shat out the big bang in it’s wake, and was sealed by a mustache charm. Why did Enpi-chan unseal it? Well, that was at the instigation of one Mark Angel – but that would be the cliffhanger this week.

In the interim, I don’t know who I feel worse for – Kappeiru for being fisted not one but twice, or Harumi for being the one who had to do it. This was all in the interest of getting first the key and then the manual to Demon King Enma’s gift to his nephew, which Kappeiru swallowed. The gift itself is apparently some sort of Dai-giga-washlet, with super bidet powers that worked quite a spell on Harumi and Yukiko. Get all that?

In the end, Enpi-chan was a dupe, the Goblin Lords sacrificed themselves for nothing, and Shappeau-ji (voiced by the same seiyuu as Chappeau-ji interestingly enough, Minoru Inaba) re-sealed the Devourer of Galaxies with another mustache. The goblin trio who thought to replace the Goblin Duo were vanquished – not by an utterly hapless giant Enma-kun robot, but by their own stupidity. In the meanwhile Enma-kun’s giant robot pretty much destroyed Tokyo – and Fuji-san as well – though Harumi was delighted whit it trashed the Diet Building. And the Great Demon King had been hiding in the Takamori Saigo statue outside Ueno Park all along, spying on Mark Angel, and when the latter confided he was sent by God to punish wicked humans, the former declared all-our war between Heaven and Hell because that was in violation of eternal law. Or something.

So to sum up: fisting, yuri with a loli, washlets that covered Yukiko in shit, and a whole bunch of combining into Super Sentai giant robots that were all massive fail. And another useless “Mawaru Penguin Drum” PV at the end, but at least this one had the cast list.

Haha, this episode cracked me up. This show is brilliant!

Talk about useless PVs, weren't Madoka Magica PVs like that too? Maybe another surprise hit on the way? Hmm…

  2. I think Ikuhara is just enjoying trolling the audience massively. His latest was saying "I don't think is a show the audience will like once they've seen the whole thing" or something like that. He's a regular international man of mystery.

''I wonder if any of that was covered in Bill 156?''

But this is highly educational! Surely they can over look it right?

I'm actually kind of surprised you waited a couple days between watching nine and ten… in my case, it was a few hours.

Anyway, I'm not sure how much responsibility Nagai bares for this new version – Last Sinner describes this as a moeified and ecchified version of the 70s show, and skimming one of the 70s episodes, he seems to be right. That said, I think Nagai's reputation is what convinced the writers it was okay to go hog wild with this project.

While my guess is that coming from him LS's description is not meant as a complimient, I'm loving this show. It's a complete hoot to watch (especially with anime buddies). And while they did moeify Yukiko, I felt they did a good job of blending that with some old school trappings. Besides, I can't resist a hopeless romantic, whereas based on the first episode the 70s version came across as a bit anal – though she did get a couple good barb shots in. Though that may be my Noto Mamiko fanboyism speaking, she's probably the only voice actress that can really give Hanazawa a run for her money as my favourite.
